What is PSA Grading and How Does it Work?

If you collect trading cards, whether sports, Pokémon or other categories, you have probably heard of PSA. But what exactly is PSA grading, why is it important, and how can you access it here in Australia?

This blog answers the most common questions collectors ask about PSA and explains how Roxbury’s Numismatics can help.

Why PSA grading matters

PSA (Professional Sports Authenticator) is the largest and most trusted third-party card grading company in the world. Their 10-point scale is the global benchmark for card condition, authenticity and protection.

Collectors choose PSA grading because it provides:

Indisputable authenticity – Grading protects against counterfeits and gives buyers confidence.
Secure protection – PSA holders are tamper-evident, water-resistant and sonically sealed.
Maximised value – Graded cards generally achieve stronger resale results compared with ungraded cards.
Autograph verification – Dual grading covers both card and signature, ensuring total trust.

How PSA grading works with Roxbury’s

As an authorised PSA dealer, Roxbury’s offers a streamlined Australian submission service. You do not need to worry about international paperwork, shipping or costly errors – we manage the process for you.

The steps are simple:

  1. Download and complete our PSA Submission Form.
  2. Email the form to us.
  3. Pack and send your cards to our PSA Submission Centre in Hendra, QLD.
  4. We send your cards to PSA in the United States, either in our quarterly shipment or via express service.
  5. Your graded cards are returned to us and then shipped safely back to you.
When PSA grading makes sense

Grading is not suitable for every card, but it is worthwhile for:

  • High-value or rare cards
  • Key rookies or iconic releases
  • Cards you plan to sell or insure
  • Signed cards that need authentication

If you are unsure, our team can provide pre-submission advice to help you decide whether grading will add value.
