Imperial Coins becomes Roxbury’s Numismatics

A fresh chapter for Australian collectors. We’ve changed our name, but not who we are. Imperial Coins is now Roxbury’s Numismatics.

Same team. Same values. Same trusted service. This new name marks a sharper focus – one that reflects how the coin world has changed, and where we’re going next.

We’ve always put collectors first. This rebrand is simply the next step in that direction.

Why we’re evolving

Over the years, the coin trade has shifted. What once ran on walk-ins and word of mouth now relies on fast communication, transparent pricing, and strong digital support.

Roxbury’s Numismatics gives us the space to specialise – focusing purely on what collectors need when buying, selling, or valuing coins and banknotes.

It also helps us draw a clearer line between the three parts of our business:

Each stands on its own. Together, they create one clear ecosystem for collectors.

Where it began

Roxbury’s Numismatics is the result of my 15-year journey as a coin dealer, shaped by four different chapters in the ever-changing world of Australian numismatics.

I grew up tagging along to coin shows with my dad, Steele Waterman, absorbing the world of numismatics. In 2010, at 27, I took over the Universal Coin Company in Melbourne’s CBD.

Timing wasn’t ideal. The GFC had just rattled the market, SMSF rules were shifting, and several major firms had collapsed. Grading debates were everywhere.

But it was a good nine years. I built relationships, learnt the ropes properly, and served a loyal group of collectors from that little laneway shop.

Eventually, as the CBD changed and the laneway lost its charm, I knew it was time for a shift.

The Imperial chapter

In 2019, I partnered with Michael Cotton, and we merged Universal into Imperial Group. The idea was bold: bundle coins, auctions, metals, vaults, and jewellery under one roof.

We moved to Brisbane, shut the Melbourne shop, and within a few months, COVID hit. Looking back, the timing was strangely lucky.

During this time, we also brought Roxbury’s Auction House into the fold. With a 40-year history and a solid client base, it quickly became a standout. Led by a strong team, it’s now one of the fastest growing and most well-regarded auction houses in the country.

Imperial was a time of growth – but also complexity. Running so many services under one umbrella had its challenges. It made focus difficult, and at times, we lost the ability to go deeper in the areas that mattered most.

Eventually, the decision became clear: it was time to simplify.

Back to what matters

Roxbury’s Numismatics is the answer to that decision.

A clear, independent brand focused solely on helping collectors with what they need most:

  • Honest, well-priced appraisals
  • Grading facilitation and advice
  • Buying direct, with no pressure
  • Tools and support to help make informed decisions

Whether you’re selling a lifelong collection or just want to know what’s in the box you found in a drawer – we’re here to help. No jargon. No gimmicks.

What’s changing – and what isn’t

What’s new:

  • A new name and visual identity
  • A new website: roxburysnumismatics.com.au
  • Clearer distinction between dealership and auction services

What stays the same:

  • Same ownership and team
  • Same commitment to fair service
  • Same shopfront, phone number, and reputation you’ve known for years

You’ll see “Previously Imperial Coins” used for a while across materials, to keep things clear. But the direction is forward.

What’s next

This rebrand isn’t about expansion for its own sake. It’s about sharpening our purpose – to help collectors get more from their collections.

That means:

  • Easier access to valuations
  • More transparent buying and selling pathways
  • Educational content through the Australian Coin Review
  • Continued investment in our auction platform and catalogue experience

The next few years will see new tools, better systems, and improved support for collectors around the country.

Join the celebration

To celebrate the rebrand, we’re offering:

All details will be published soon on the website and socials.

Thanks for being part of the journey – whether you’ve known us since Universal, worked with us through Imperial, or you’re just discovering Roxbury’s today.

It’s been a privilege to serve this community. And there’s still so much more to come.
